Condemned to Limbo

The Limbo originated many years ago as an outgrowth of the Trinidadian superstition that the friends of the dead person must perform a ritual dance in order to assure his safe arrival in heaven …… According to the old ritual, should a dancer fall when passing under the flaming Limbo bar, the soul of the dead friend is condemned to Limbo (thus the name of the dance).

I had never before heard the condemned to purgatory part of how the Limbo dance originated–which seems to me very appropriate that it’s still an officially sanctioned activity on cruise ships.  The album features singer Lord Rhumbago (coincidentally, my childhood nickname) whose talents the album notes compare favorably to Lord Invader, Sparrow, and a name I’d never heard before–General Sherman Tank. “General Sherman Tank” is an obscure performer indeed; the only online reference I could find to that name is as an AKC registered bull Mastiff puppy.

The hit tune on this album is “Melodious Overtones”, which consists of the phrase “melodious overtones” sung over and over. You can give it a listen in the Box widget on the right. Over there. No not there, THERE. You got it.
